Over 40years experience in competition, coaching, farm and horse management, sales. We know markets in the U.S., Canada, Caribbean, Europe.

Appraisal Range:

I have appraised many types of horses, mostly in the English-based sports such as polo, jumpers, dressage, eventing and foxhunting. I appraised the 21world class polo ponies that died April 2009 on the polo field in West Palm, Florida. Insurance companies often hire me to establish prices for deceased horses. Donors of horses to university programs often call me. I also consult for buyers and sellers, helping them find the right market in the right place whether buying or selling.

Experience:
40 years experience with horses in upper level eventing, foxhunting, polo and hunter/jumper as competitor and trainer. 30 years as a journalist writing about horses and related issues from interviewing high profile figures in competition and philanthropy to competition reports. Also, many years as a photographer supplying photos with articles. Between keeping horses fit and sound for hunting and eventing and studying anatomy for photographs, appraisals segue nicely!

Qualifications:
Certified by the American Society of Equine Appraisers:
-Advanced Appraisal Certification, 70 hours study 2010
-A
merican Society of Agricultural Appraisers' Principles of Valuation course, 35 hours 2003
Conducted in accordance with Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice adopted by the Appraisal Foundation, Washington D.C.

There are many types of appraisals.

Appraisals: a sampler:

DonationFor example, you have been playing polo for several years but you are finished with the sport. You want to donate your horse to a university polo program. What's it worth?
.
Price in an Unfamiliar MarketYou saw the perfect event horse listed in a national magazine in the classified. The asking price seems high. You don't know anything about the east coast. Is that an appropriate price for that horse where it lives and competes? Is that an appropriate price for a similar horse located in your area? You want to make an offer.

Death by InjuryYour horse just ran through a fence and was severely injured. You have to put him down. Your insurance company wants to know what to pay you.

  Selling in the Right Market
Last year you and your trainer found a young foxhunter in Galway. You paid for it, insured it, and await its arrival. But you've found a better one close to home and want to sell the Irish one as soon as it arrives. Where's the best market for that particular horse?
